Carter Middle School

Homework Policy

Homework is considered any work that must be finished outside the classroom.

Teacher Responsibility- Will clearly state, collect, grade, and return homework to students, and will assign a variety of types.

Student Responsibility- Complete and turn in homework assignments on time.  Ask for make-up work THE DAY FOLLOWING AN ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL.    Ask questions to make sure the assignment is understood.

Parent Responsibility- Provide a quiet place and time for each child to complete homework assignments.  Ask to see the homework before it is turned in and after it is checked and returned by the teacher.

Time Guidelines- Students in grades 5-8, all subjects included, could have 1-5 hours of homework per week, including weekends. The amount of homework will vary depending upon the difficulty of lesson or unit being studied.

Homework Hotline- Homework assignments are available on the Homework Hotline.  Each teacher will inform students of their team's box number. Students with short-term illness should use the hotline for all homework requests rather than calling the school office.
